WHAT IS HYPNOBIRTHING?

Hypnobirthing is a form of antenatal education and an approach to birth. It teaches the physiology of birth and how the pregnant body works on a muscular and hormonal level. Hypnobirthing explains the psychology of birth to help women prepare mentally for labour and get the best out of the experience.  Hypnobirthing guides you to develop an individualised practice to build confidence and release fear during pregnancy. This includes a toolkit of resources to help you access a state of relaxation and develop a positive state of mind.

Hypnobirthing works by building confidence to influence and support natural physiological processes and shifts your mindset to help you better cope with any challenges and enable a more positive experience.

We all have different priorities, concerns, and preferences, and this hypnobirthing course will help you to feel empowered in control and prepared for whichever kind of birth you choose.

What is the history of Hypnobirthing? Where did it come from?

Hypnobirthing can be traced back to the pioneering work of British Obstetrician Grantly Dick Read whose work was based around a phenomenon he named ‘the fear-tension-pain syndrome of childbirth’.

The term Hypnobirthing is credited to Michelle Leclaire O’Neill and the method gained popularity and worldwide recognition in the early 1990’s thanks to the work of Marie Mongan. She developed ‘The Mongon Method’ combining hypnotherapy with childbirth education, aiming to help women experience labour more comfortably, explore their choices and develop the decision-making skill necessary to achieve their births they wanted.
